What is Dementia and do you provide care for people with Dementia?

Good Shepherd Aged Services and its staff have had specialised training in caring for individuals that suffer from Dementia. Dementia is the term used to describe the symptoms of a large group of illnesses which cause a progressive decline in a person's mental functioning. It is a broad term which describes a loss of memory, intellect, reasoning, social skills and normal emotional reactions that are often reflected in a person's behaviour.

Good Shepherd Aged Services has been extensively involved in assisting Catholic Health Australia to produce a book titled; The Care of Persons with Dementia in Catholic Aged Care.

To purchase a copy of this book please visit the Catholic Health Australia website:

Good Shepherd Aged Services cares for residents suffering from Dementia with specialised programs and facilities. We are however, neither a dementia specific service nor a locked unit. Some residents that are at high risk of absconding may need to be placed in an alternative secured dementia specific unit.
