Healthy, well-thy and wise

A carefully researched and evaluated health and wellness program can lift the spirits of residents and staff alike, writes Dean Gemmill.

A Bird's Eye View

Maryville Aged Care Hostel, in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, has established the country's first bird watchers' club in an aged care facility, in conjunction with the Bird Observers Club of Australia.

What about meals?

Good Shepherd Aged Services has an enviable record amongst the aged care industry of providing high quality meals to the residents in care. All meals are freshly prepared and cooked on-site and the menu is overseen by our dietitian.

Good Shepherd Aged Services caters for special diets and food preferences. Please advise the staff of your individual needs and dislikes. Family members are welcome to join you for meals. Smaller dining areas are available in each of the facilities for residents to enjoy a meal with their family. We ask that you notify the staff 24 hours in advance if you are having guests.  A minimal cost applies for guest meals.

In addition, morning and afternoon teas and supper are served.

Extra food and beverages are available upon request.  Fridges are located throughout the facilities for the use of residents and relatives.

Please note that any food items brought into the facilities need to meet the requirements of the Food Safety Act.
